Surrounding Islands

There are a number of islands close to Mahé that are well worth visiting and exploring. Saint Anne, Moyenne, Round, Long and Cerf Island together form the Saint Anne Marine Park and are open to the public (with the exception of Long Island where the prison is located). Day trips are organised by many of the Tour Operators and allow you some time to snorkel, feed the fish, enjoy lunch on either Moyenne or Round Island and spend the remainder of day exploring the islands or simply relaxing in the sun.

Further away from Mahé you will find the second largest island in the Seychelles group, Praslin Island. With the famous Vallee de Mai (thought by many to be the original garden of Eden and home to the famous Coco de Mer), and it’s beautiful beaches (Anse Lazio is regularly voted one of the top 10 beaches in the world), some time on Praslin is well spent. Praslin is a one hour ferry ride away and 15 minutes by air.

La Digue is a short distance from Praslin and has some of the most spectacular beaches you can hope to see – many of the beaches on La Digue will be easily identifiable as pictures of them are regularly used on postcards and in books. This island has retained much of the charm of Seychelles in the bygone days with transport by traditional ox-cart or bicycle you can get to know the island from a personal perspective.
