The largest island in the Seychelles, Mahé is 8km wide and 27km long. The Capital city of Seychelles, Victoria, can be found here and it is one of the smallest capitals in the world. Here you will find banks, travel agencies, the market, small boutiques and the supermarket. Business hours are generally between 08h30–16h30 weekdays and 08h00-13h00 on Saturday, most shops and the market are closed on Sundays.
There are a host of things to do on Mahé:
- Nature trails – along the coastline to secluded beaches or through the Morne Seychellois National Park, you can see the indigenous flora and fauna of this tropical island as well as experience some spectacular views
- Jardin du Roi – see a host of spices growing in their natural environment and enjoy a bite to eat at the Spice Garden Café
- The Market – the fresh produce market in Victoria is a hive of activity and here you can find fresh produce and the fisherman’s daily catch
- Botanical Gardens – the official gardens of the Seychelles, see unique and rare plants
- Craft Village – built in traditional Creole style, enjoy different local crafts and art work
- Art galleries and studios – Michael Adams and Tom Bowers are world renowned artists based in Seychelles
- Secluded beaches – spend the day relaxing on one of the 60 beaches
- Marine Parks – excellent snorkelling is available in either the Bay Ternay or St Anne Marine Park
